Shawnee-based Fulcrum Global Capital closed on its first fund after raising $36 million for early-stage investments in agriculture, animal health and agricultural technology.
Fulcrum Global already has four investments in its portfolio:
Fulcrum Global was founded by Duane Cantrell, Kevin Lockett and John Peryam. All three formerly worked for the Kansas Bioscience Authority, which was founded in 2004 with the goal of accelerating growth in biosciences and generating jobs by serving as a self-sustaining venture capital organization.
The KBA made about $34 million in direct investments in nine companies, including Leawood-based Aratana Therapeutics Inc. (now a subsidiary of Elanco Animal Health) and Olathe-based Innara Health Inc. Facing a $350 million budget shortfall, the state decided in 2016 to sell the portfolio to Chicago-based Origami Capital Partners for about $14 million.
The Kansas City Business Journal is looking for those businesspeople —entrepreneurs, executives, professionals — who will lead their companies, and their community, into the future.
